I have used sign language recreationally for five years now. One of the main problems I used to have with books for instruction was the lack (or shortage) of exercises for "receiving" (or reading) sign language. This book is an excellent source of "receiving exercises" for new students of sign language to get used to interpreting signs from other people BEFORE actually being placed in that situation with real people. I have found that this greatly reduces the stress of initial experiences with receiving sign language from others. This is especially important since receiving is HALF of any type of communication. Of course, this book is also an excellent instructional resource for learning how to sign to other people effectively. Therefore, I highly recommend this book whether it is used in a class or by an individual!

This was purchased to be used in a beginning signing course. I've looked at, and purchased, several other signing books, but this book is the best. Great way to start to learn a new language.

This book contains clear illustrations and thorough descriptions. Designed by category, it's easy to find related signs and learn these together, or to search through the index alphabetically for something specific. A wonderful attribute is the layout of six sections per page, making it easy to simply photocopy onto cardstock or construction paper and have ready made flash cards or cards for a memory or go fish game

This is a great resource with a ton of signs in it organized by topic. It is not to be used alone, but makes a great supplement to an ASL course. ASL has regional "dialects" and some of the signs in this book are not used where I live, so you really need the guidance of a fluent signer (preferably someone who lives in the Deaf community and communicates in ASL on a regular basis). It uses standard pictures which are usually simple enough to understand. All in all, it was a great purchase and is a great addition to my ASL "library".

My family is trying to learn ASL on their own. And we''ve gotten several books, all better than adequate. But this is the best on their list. They especially like the way the author illustrates signing. It is easier for them to follow and copy than any of the other books we've gotten so far. The two books they have by Mickey Flodin are the ones they keep going back to.

I purchased this because we learned our four year old granddaughter is profoundly deaf. She has rapidly picked up signing. I want to be able to communicate with her. This book was highly recommended by one of her therapists.

I'm a retired high school teacher, and decided to enroll in the Senior Citizen Center in my neighborhood. One of the classes offered was Sign Language. There was a required text, but I needed a supplemental workbook, and this served the purpose. I'm in my second year, and doing quite well in the class. This was a great learning tool. ...and the price was the best part. I paid less than 10% of the original price, and was delivered within a week of purchase. I told my other classmates about the great buy, and they also ordered the book. We are having fun learning Sign Language. Thanks AMAZON!

Excellent book, used to tutor and teach for many years.
