About the Author
Blandine Calais-Germain lifelong involvement with dance, both as performer and teacher, eventually led to an interest in other physical disciplines, and then to more formal study of the complex and integrated movements of the body. From 1977 to 1980 the author studied physiotherapy at the French School of Orthopedics and Massage in Paris. In physiotherapy, body movements are analyzed both in terms of their neurophysiological and mechanical aspects, which allows for a better understanding of the actual mechanisms of movement. From her work with dance and physiotherapy, the author developed an innovative method for teaching the physical structures of anatomy in relation to movement. This method, the subject of her companion volumes Anatomy of Movement and Anatomy of Movement: Exercises, has been enthusiastically received in workshops that she presented for many years in France. Her two books have been translated and published throughout the world in many languages.

About the Author
Peter Sloterdijk (b. 1947) is one of the best known and widely read German intellectuals writing today. His 1983 publication of "Critique of Cynical Reason" (published in English in 1988) became the best-selling German book of philosophy since World War II. He became president of the State Academy of Design at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe in 2001. He has been cohost of a discussion program, "Das Philosophische Quartett" (Philosophical Quartet) on German television since 2002.

I have been teaching piano lessons for over thirty years. The "John W. Schaum Note Speller Book One" has proven to be the perfect resource and skills practice book for students who have difficulty learning notes; for students who have played instruments focusing on only one clef and not both Treble and Bass Clef, and especially for students who shirked learning note reading due to playing by ear or because of other listening/hand postion methods which avoid true reading skills. There are varied drills which can be used in so many creative ways.

My mother has been a piano teacher for over 30 years. She has taught all her gifted students with this book and other Schaum books... My children are now learning their notes and learning to understand the language of music from this book. For good theory music use Schaum.

very nice for kids learning their notes. I also bougt the hal leonard note speller books and this one gives you more bang for your buck. This book is filled with exercises from top to bottom of the page so it has more repetition. THe hal leonard is filled with more character drawings with little amount of exercises. Kids might find the hal leonard more animated, but definitely this is better buy for actually learning and writing your notes. My kids are 6 and 7 and are being taught the hal leonard music book 2 right now, so I decided to buy the hal leonard notespeller book. I didn't think they were bad, but my kids finished them within a couple of days and I wanted a more "complex" book. I play the piano as well and I have to say that for learning this is MUCH BETTER buy!

This book is a wonderful resource for any student learning to read music notation. While it is intended to be used for piano, it would certainly work for any instrument. There are a few pages devoted to treble and bass clef separately, but many pages have exercises using both notes. It is quite easy to skip the examples using the opposite clef, while still having many practice problems for students.Also, as a middle school music teacher, one of the biggest difficulties I encounter is students understanding that the shape of the note does not affect its pitch. This book provides many examples of different pitches using all types of rhythmic notes. Likewise, it also provides various rhythms to demonstrate how pitch and rhythmic notation work independently of each other. For the small cost of the book, I think it will provide the needed reinforcement for beginning music readers, no matter their age.

For the beginner student who wants a grasp on theory and note/key recognition. These daily or weekly exercises compliment any music program. Highly recommended for students in their second year of piano. The lessons are simple yet important in teaching the student how to read music. I was quite impressed with how this series really helped my son play piano.

This Book 1 note speller is really for an older child or adult who can quickly understand theory. It moves too quickly for a child that would normally be starting up piano lessons. The first few pages were fine, but it got hard very fast.

A great book to help learn notes for a beginning piano student. I bought on my own to help with note memorization and my instructor thought it was a great book to use.

I've used this notespeller with teaching piano for nearly 20 years now, and still love it for the basics of theory as much as when I started teaching. It is a fantastic resource for teaching basic beginning theory, without being boring. Reinforces necessary elements of theory, but is easy enough for even tiny learners...highly recommend! I've tried many theory series over the years and this one book is my favourite for beginners.

I wanted to wait until I had read the third book in the series before I rendered an opinion. Wow! I have been an avid Fantasy and Science Fiction reader for the better part of 55 years and as a genuine nerd (I'm a software engineer and horseman in Real Life), I have come to classify writers into three groups: ordinary folks that write books that do not leave a lasting impression, authors that are OK and help pass the time and Story Tellers. As you might expect, there are Very Few Story Tellers on my list. Tolkien is on the list as is Mercedes Lackey (her world of The Companions). These are writers that write so well that I am transported to their realm, wherever that might be and can become completely lost in that world. I need to (and can without regret) read their books multiple times to get all the detail out. I can always turn to their books as Old Friends that will always entertain. Their books are those that I eagerly await when published and consume all too quickly - a year to write and a week to read (sometimes only a day ). Rachel, after having read her first three Nice Dragon books, has made the Story Teller list. I have become invested in Julius' and Marcis' fate. I am waiting very impatiently for the next book and am hoping that there are two dozen more in there for me to read. The fall of Quetzalcoatl, the Trip to China, What happens to the "F"'s (I have figured out the secret but won't reveal it as a spoiler here, Rachel left us enough clues to figure it out if you're paying attention - it wouldn't be fair), the secrets, the fall of the original Dragon Plane and perhaps what life was like there, how Bethesda's father came to be and how he fell, Bob's early life, What Amelia found (when will she be back - again, I won't spoil things but her current situation needs to change and that was planned for so I want to see what happens...?), what terrible things did Amelia find in her travels that are Coming To Get Us, what part the Dragon Who Sees The Beginning and the Dragon Who Sees The End have to play in future books, The rise of the Merlins, the fall of the old Merlins, how did the magic get cut off (iow what stupid thing did humanity do to cause it - or maybe not so stupid), etc. etc.There are so many stories to explore here that I hardly know which path to hope Rachel takes next. I have read some of her other series, the Eli Monpress world is Very Interesting - I need to go back and see what happens there, can't have the bad guys win it all, but I'll have to admit that I am jealous of Rachel's time spent on projects not Nice Dragon (as any true fan should be).Short version of my review: more More MORE! Rachel Aaron leads us in a momentous, merry, and murky path as we enter the third book of the Heartstrikers Saga. A fast paced read from start to finish, Aaron manages to weave what at originally feels like competing lines instead into a cooperative tapestry. The cast continues to grow, and I feel for all these characters. Aaron can generate such a unique pathos for some while still somehow maintaining the overall hopeful tone.We continue to learn more about the world, the magic, and the different factions, but never in a way that seems unsuspected. Things reveal at perfect pacing, and while not all questions are verbally answered by characters, all the clues are present to draw in the readers comprehension and appreciation.We all knew Julius was in for quite the challenge bringing a Council to his family, but the events that follow are both surprising and uplifting. Julius continues to grow yet remain his core unique self, and bring a new kind of vision to his siblings. Marci has her own travels to make as the relationship with her spirit evolves and others begin to take notice of their unique magics. Algonquian’s threats are not to be forgotten but don’t turn out quite as expected as well.Aaron has a beautiful ability to tell a difficult story in a fun and driving way. Though light is made at points, no detail should be overlooked, no hint or word forgotten. Everything matters, and everything will eventually come to light. I look forward to reading the succeeding and eventually concluding novels in order to learn truly where the future our Dragon Seers are driving towards.

Rachel Aaron's writing feels a lot like Brandon Sanderson's, but with a lot of quirky humor thrown in. And I mean that in the best twisty, plot-within-plot-within-meticulously-plotted-plot human-condition sort of way. Her series start out deceptively light, and as they twine on, the plots thicken and twist, even as the characterizations become deeper and more refined.This book is a bit different than the first two; there's less humor and more plot points left hanging at the end of the book. That's not to say a lot of plot points aren't wrapped up and answers to questions given, because there are. It's just as the plot complexities multiply, some threads must continue on to the next book.In No Good Dragon Goes Unpunished, Julius, the nicest dragon in question, stands his ground despite shyness, fear, manipulation, his mother, his brother, his other brother, broken bones, cuts and bruises, and a dragon flaming. Our nice dragon stares down death and refuses to budge from his principles, and we love him for it. Marci grows even more as a mage and love interest, Ghost, well, acts even more ghostly, Justin seems to have added several IQ points, Ian climbs the corporate/dragon ladder with finesse, Chelsie is Chelsier with a really cool backstory thrown in that fleshes her out in ways we didn't see coming, and Bob is, well, Bob. Throw in a few mages - dragon and human - for good measure and there's just a bit of tension brewing.When you add in Bethesda - not the cuddliest of moms, Algonquin, giant slugs, a magical construct or two, and hundreds of Heartstriker dragons stuffed into one mountain fortress at the same time, well... the story just gets better and better as the tensions mount. She's also one who provides some of the biggest plot twists, as evidenced by the first-chapter flashback. Through the book, Bethesda is proven to be even more shallow, stubborn, prideful, short-sighted, and cold-blooded than we thought she was. We wonder how she birthed all these brilliant, complex characters, along with the niceness that is Julius. There is only one particular dragon who seems to take after his mother, so maybe Ms. Aaron is letting us know that for the most part, Bethesda's shortcomings aren't genetic but pathological, or maybe she simply seldom breeds true. At any rate, the reader is left siding with the Heartstriker dragons who want to beat a few thick skulls against a wall or two.A good read, very satisfying, although it does make you really wish the next book was already out! Rachel Aaron is on my must-buy/must-preorder list, as well as those of my friends and family. One of the best indie authors ever and worth every penny for her books. Firstly I would like to get a bit of unpleasantness out of the way. This novel, the first in a series of historical novels concerning the French monarchy. That means that for a person adept only in the English language, there will be many trials and challenges awaiting the reader involving pronouncing those lovely French names, titles, and terms. This difficulty in no way affects how I feel about the absorbing tale Maurice Druon has written. I take full responsibility for my linguistic shortcomings.Philip IV or Philip the Fair as he is commonly referred to is the titular character of the Iron King and I found him to be an intriguing character who is able to reveal to us a cold and sometimes cruel persona, but also a man capable of gentleness and caring. It is alluded to a few times in the book that he seems almost inhuman or otherworldly because of his statuesque demeanor and his icy, unblinking stare.Perhaps my favorite character in the story is Beatrice who is in service to Mahaut. Beatrice was not featured near enough in my opinion but I suppose that added to the mystery that surrounded her since her introduction. She seemed to know a thing or two about sorcery which automatically thrust her to the top of interesting characters for me. It's also the cavalier manner in which she acts, making her seem almost otherworldly as well.I could go on about each character and family involved in the story but I will conclude my review on a positive note: if you enjoy medieval tales of courtly intrigue and especially if you enjoy the Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin then the Iron King will be a welcome read. I look forward to the Strangled Queen and I anticipate my review for it to be posted quite soon.

The Iron King is terrific. So much historical fiction today is thinly disguised romance (the recent novels of Sharon Penman spring to mind). Maurice Druon doesn't make the mistake of romanticizing history. The Iron King is the pellucid tale of Phillip the Fair, who found France fractured like a medieval Humpty Dumpty and set about putting it back together again. Through sheer force of will and a combination of dastardly deeds he succeeds spectacularly.To achieve his goals Phillip needs money. What he doesn't have, the Knights Templar do, so he ruthlessly and single-mindedly goes about taking what isn't his. Recent historians have been kinder to Phillip, pointing out the Knights Templar who returned from the crusades brought with them Christian rituals foreign to western Europeans that could indeed seem heretical. A few have argued (unconvincingly, I think) Phillip regarded their destruction as his duty. Surely if so he would not have pilfered their coffers but given the money to Mother Church.Regardless, Druon doesn't indulge in simplistic interpretations. The Phillip he presents is something of an enigma and therefore it is up to the reader to determine just how venal and mendacious the French king was. My conclusion was, very. If one is know by the company one keeps, his ministers Marigny and Nogaret attest to his cruelty and selfishness. Either would have felt right at home in the Gestapo. Phillip's and their relentless persecution of Jews and Templars (15,000 by some accounts( belies a saintly temperament.I thoroughly enjoyed the author's of daughter Isabelle: cold, beautiful and seething with rage against a husband (Edward II of England) who has publicly shamed her with his infatuation for young men. I have always wondered how the three wives of Phillip's sons could have been so errantly stupid. Yet when you meet them and their husbands (particularly the heir Louis), it's not so surprising they would take lovers. Druon convincingly makes Isabelle their nemesis from bitterness and hate and their exposure and disgrace is very well done. There is also a delightful sorceress who likes to pretend the lover she's copulating with is actually the Devil. Only the French....Like Phillip, I pitied a France that had Louis in the wings as heir, and was hoping against history the famous (though certainly apocryphal) Grand Master's curse would fall one short. Alas, it was not to be. Phillip follows Boniface and Nogaret to the bowels of hell....or thereabouts. Can't wait to read The Strangled Queen.

This sets the stage for the rest of the series. Eminently readable, I especially enjoyed the author’s philosophical comments on human behavior. I only wish the author had other series. The tale of the destruction of the Knights Templar and the view that the curse of the dying leaders affected the French throne as well as the English lends an inevitability to history already known. The entire series is an excellent read, and the author is more historically accurate than most of the historical fiction genre.

First, I read Maurice Druon's epic in French a long, long, time ago. Won't say how long. I have also watched both French TV versions. This is French History put in a novel form. Maurice Druon very much stays with the facts and this may make for a slower book than most people want in an historical fiction. I love it. I said "Finally" because the only english versions of these books that are currently on sale are usually very old and very expensive. I have my French set that I can read but it is really nice to be able to sit with my Kindle and enjoy these books. Also, my husband is very excited since he does not read French and has wanted to read these books.I hope the next books become available soon. I hope we don't have to wait a year between books. I just wish they had made all the books available as one large Kindle book.If you like fact based historical fiction you will enjoy these books. So much is written about English history, especially the Tudors, that you may enjoy reading about a new part of history.

Not exactly Game of Thrones, but pretty absorbing nonetheless -- and you learn some history in the process. This series is a great read -- I am on Book III at present, and it's difficult to out down. It does help if you have some French language background in order to be able to mentally pronounce the many French names and locales; I have that background, but I can see how this might be a frustrating aspect for for others that do not.
